To-Do List with Google Maps - Version 2.0 with new advanced features

Related to: [To-Do List with Google Maps !!]

To-Do List Version 2.0 is here. I was able to include most of your suggestions in this version..

The new features include:

  1. Due Dates: Now you will be able to set due dates for your tasks. Just click on edit and you will see an option to use Due date. Check the “Use due date” checkbox and set the appropriate due date. Click on “Save Due Date” and the due date should be saved for the task. The number of days due is displayed adjacent to each task as “2 d” or “365 d” which represents 2 days and 365 days respectively.
  2. Auto change Priority to “High” based on Due date: You have the option to let the gadget change the priority (to High) automatically based on due date. For instance - You could specify that the priority of a task becomes high when the task is due in certain number of days (1-5 days). To achieve this, just click on edit and check the “Use due date” checkbox, then set the appropriate due date and then select the number of days when the priority of the task should become high.
  3. Various Sorting Options: Now you have the option to Sort the tasks by priority or by due date. As the name indicates, “Sort by priority” sorts the tasks based on priority of the tasks. This comes in handy when combined with the auto-change priority option. “sort by due date” sorts the tasks based on due date.
  4. Various Printing Options: Now you have the option to Print the tasks based on due date. You have the option to print either All tasks or Tasks that were due yesterday, Today or Tomorrow.

There needs to be an option to remove the news messages (”Version 2.0!. NEW features.”) from the top of the ToDo list in iGoogle. Seeing the item once is fine but it always appears on the gadget.

Great updates. I’ve almost worked this gadget into my daily routine, but a few more things would be helpful. How about a feature which would automatically expand tasks which are about to be due (I’m more likely to work on those first)? Also, allow for due dates to be set within a major to do (i.e., the “smaller” to do items in larger task could have due dates which do not exceed the master due date). Just some thoughts.

This is my most useful gadget. I use it every day. How much memory space does this gadget have? I’d like to leave my completed items for future reference - like a Franklin Planner. Is there a way to file completed tasks without having them show on the current display? That would be nice.

sorry for the late reply.. Had been kind of busy.

Kyle - I will definitely consider your suggestions.

Grant - The memory space is limited to the space provided by Google. All your todo’s are stored on Google servers as Google preferences. In testing, I was able to add more than 600 tasks easily without hitting the limit. BUT I wouldn’t risk that. My advise to you would be to open different tabs and have the to-do gadget in different tabs. Each tab provides you separate space. And of course other gadgets under the same tab share the space.
And regarding your suggestion on filing completed tasks - it is an interesting area to explore. For now, the workaround is to just print them into pdf files and keep it with you.

I love the new To Do List for Google. I was wondering if you could implement an option where you can open all the tasks at once as I keep sub-tasks under the main task name. Also, offer the option in which you can separate bulk task in different groupings. For example, I created tasks such as Bills, Computer, Apartment then I have Monday through Sunday where I put sub-tasks under them. I would like to group Bills, Computer and Apartment in one group then have Monday thru Friday in another group where I can print it out separately to have a more thorough To Do List. Please advise.

    Chris,
Just so I understand - I’m assuming you are looking to create sub-task under sub-task. For instance you would want to have 2 main tasks called “Weekly task” and “Other tasks”. Now under weekly task, you have Monday thru Friday as subtask and the real tasks under this sub-task.. am i correct ?
One workaround is to have to-do list in two different tabs. iGoogle allows you to have any number of tabs. You can then name the tabs “weekly tasks” and “Other tasks”. Just have the to-do list gadget in each tab.. and add sub-tasks accordingly. Now you can print them separately. Hope that helps.

    thanks

    Hello Mahin,
Thanks for your response…let me try to explain it a little bit better so you understand what I am looking for.

I have created main header task as the following:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Bills, Computer, Shopping, Emails/Phone Calls….then I created my tasks underneath them which are sub-tasks.

Now, I would like to separate the Monday-Sunday into one grouping and the others in another grouping. Essentially, there is a space in b/w the groups to show they are separate. This will allow me to focus on tasks on hand for those groupings.

Also, when I print I know where to look for my tasks. I would like to request an auto expand on all main tasks showing sub-tasks option.

Please allow for flexibility in printing in a smaller font size as my list gets bigger it will require more paper to print it out.

    Hope this helps

Have you known Google to lose the to-do list?

My ISP is having issues today, and I’m getting a lot of reset by peers. Unfortunately, now the to-do list is all gone. I don’t know if that’s because of my ISP issues, or did Google refresh an empty list because of the ISP issues, or…

At least I have a printout that’s about a week old this time…

Never mind the above…it was related to my ISP hiccups. Everything is back.

Which leads me to another question. I had asked earlier about sharing data between the Sidebar gadget and iGoogle (and Net*mumble*) and you said that was an interesting idea.

It might be easier to have import/export capability - export from iGoogle and import into Sidebar, etc. I’d be happy with that, as I could then coordinate for when I don’t have my laptop with me.

I love this tool! Thanks again!

I am trying to add the To-Do list to the ‘my widgets’ sidebar in Lotus Notes but am not having an luck. I just need a link ending in .xml. I have tried using the link but it didn’t work: http://www.google.com/ig/adde?moduleurl=screeperzone.googlepages.com/todo.xml

    Any ideas?

    Hi,

I’d just like to say that this tool is great!

There are so many similar tools out there but many are ugly, too simple, too complicated etc. etc.

Your’s has all the real important stuff:
    . Add tasks easily
    . Add sub tasks easily
    . Reorder tasks easily
. Expand and contract lists easily
. A completed task is crossed out and made smaller when it is checked rather than being deleted (which many other apps do). Of course the option to delete the task if desired is also available :0)
. Print option - this is both simple and great!
. No limit on number of tasks
. Screen autosizes to display tasks
. Small and simple display of task priority
. Can add due date if desired but not required

There are only a couple of things that would be useful:
. Possiblity to create data backups (although of course we can currently print a hard copy)
. Possibility to add sub tasks to sub tasks (this is a minor point)
. Possibility to rename the title (To-Do List) to something else

Most importantly I would ask you NOT to change your application much because it is great as it is. I would hate to see you add lots of extra bells and whistles which could turn a great and simple app into a overcomplicated and bloated beast.

    Well thanks again!

    Hey,

Fantastic job on the widget. It’s useful and simple. To echo Dan, don’t change it too much! …but I would agree that the suggestion to “rename the title (To-Do List) to something else” would be very useful. I currently use 4 instances of a dumber todo list to simulate the “four quadrant” system of time management (http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?FourQuadrants). By simply allowing renaming of your app, this sort of behavior can be allowed without unneeded bloating of your widget.

    Thanks!
    Jon
