To-Do List with Google Maps - Windows Vista sidebar todo task management/Task checklist gadget

Related to: [To-Do List with Google Maps !!]

You can download the gadget by clicking the Vista sidebar button below:

Add to Vista sidebar

Version 2.2.0 (Recommended Version)

Minimized version of todo vista gadget

(Minimized View)

Maximized version of todo vista sidebar

(Maximized View)

NOTE: If you are using old version (If you can’t find version number at the bottom of the gadget, then you are using OLD version), Please print all tasks at your convenience. PLEASE DO NOT edit settings before you print all your tasks.

The functionalities are similar to the iGoogle and NetVibes gadgets. You can read the functionalities here.

New features included as part of Version 2.2.0:

  1. Minimizing the gadget to fit Windows Vista sidebar: You can click “Minimize” link at the bottom to fit the gadget in to Vista sidebar. If you want to look at the more advanced version, click “Maximize”.
  2. More storage: The gadget now allows you to add as many tasks as possible without loosing data.

Bug fixes included as part of Version 2.2.0:

  1. Data gets lost after editing settings - This was because the maximum size of data that can be stored was 2Kb. So the gadget discarded all the data without warning when it hit the limit. This bug should be fixed now.

Some known quirks include:

  1. The gadget will seem to disappear sometimes when you click on “edit” or add too many tasks. Don’t Panic ..Just scroll through the vista sidebar tabs (On the top of the sidebar near the “+”, there should be “>” and “<”), and you should see the gadget in the next tab. The reason is that - Vista seems to push the gadget to the next tab when it doesn’t have enough space to display the entire gadget.

I am trying to improve this gadget whenever I get some free time.

Please leave your comments and suggestions. I really appreciate your feedback

Microsoft Windows Vista sidebar todo list gadget. Use it for vacation travel checklist, holiday travel checklist, shopping checklist, grocery checklist.

Hi! On Vista Side Bar gajet is very width :(

And this problem not correct in settings.

    Ps Sorry for my English

  2. 2 martin Dec 3rd, 2007 at 8:10 am

looking to reduce the width of the gadget to match that of sidebar in vista - it is wider and uses up working space that I need. thanks,

  3. 3 Max Dec 4th, 2007 at 2:41 am

Why the hell can’t I resize it lower than 240? It doesn’t fit in the sidebar! It should be shorter until it it moused over.

  4. 4 Mahin Dec 4th, 2007 at 10:52 am

I’m still looking into it. I will let you know once I find a solution. thanks..

  5. 5 Chris Dec 5th, 2007 at 12:52 pm

    Hi!

It looks great until you install it. First thing it should do is to fit inside the sidebar. It has a lot of functionality but I would settle with a simple list (like this one has), reordering (also in place), fit inside the sidebar and a nice black background with white text :) Also get rid of the scrollbars!

I am staring to wonder if I should make one myself ;)

Looks good so far and is working well, but my version of the gadget doesn’t have the “To Do” header at the top, nor a menu button alongside it as is shown in some screenshots. As a result, I don’t know what I need to do to change the gadget’s colors, if that’s still an option.

Am I missing something obvious? Tried clicking through various things just to see… only thing under “options” is resizing. Thanks!

RE: Vista Version of To-Do List

By far the most feature rich To Do list gadget I’ve found. I have two suggestions to make it even better:

    1) Fix the width issue (I know, you’re aware of it).

    2) Make it skinnable/themed. I prefer my gadgets to look similarly, as to not cause an an “eyesore” of sorts, due to one gadget being white, with all the other’s gloss black, etc.

I’ll keep an eye on this gadget and will reinstall it without hesitation if those two changes/features could be implemented.

  8. 8 Mahin Dec 12th, 2007 at 3:15 pm

Janie - Currently that option is only available for iGoogle users. sorry.

Alexander - The width issue should now be fixed. I will look into the skinnable option soon.

    slick, new version looks nice.
Really nice workflow, super easy to add tasks. Nice job, man.

Thanks for the fixes, hope to not have to re-add tasks again for a while. See what happens when I restart computer.. ;)

I’m trying to open the Vista version and I’m getting a message that says “The file you are downloading cannot be opened by the default program.” I’m using the Google sidebar. Any suggestions?

  11. 11 Mahin Dec 18th, 2007 at 6:39 pm

Carol, this gadget is for Windows Vista sidebar users. You will not be able to add this gadget to Google desktop sidebar. I have IGoogle Version of this gadget too –> IGoogle/Netvibes Todo-list with Google Maps Gadget

  12. 12 mohsen Dec 20th, 2007 at 6:00 pm

pretty simple and wonderful gadget. i use it all the time, thumbs up ;-)

  13. 13 James Jan 3rd, 2008 at 8:39 am

    Very promising, but…

    1) width - which I know you know about

    2) when task set to always show expanded, would be useful to then display the subtasks (indented) in the minimized view

    Cheers

  14. 14 Mahin Jan 4th, 2008 at 9:02 pm

Just an FYI - None of the data is stored on ScreeperZone servers. All data is stored on your local Windows box. You can see the data in the following folder

C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets\TodoList.gadget\TodoList_tsks.txt <- This file has the data. So you donot
have to worry about ANY privacy concerns. All your data is in your local machine.

  15. 15 Mahin Jan 4th, 2008 at 9:03 pm

    James,
As it regards to the width - I offered the maximize, minimize version. You can minimize the gadget if not needed.

  16. 16 danwray Jan 6th, 2008 at 11:36 pm

hey man, excellent gadget for vista sidebar. only thing i wish it had at the moment was a simple way to strikeout items in the minimized view. like, just click on something to strike it out. otherwise, great.

  17. 17 Bevans Jan 11th, 2008 at 2:09 pm

I’ve found both your To-Do List and Activity Tracker gadgets to be very helpful.

One thing I’d like to see on the To-Do list is support for recurring items. For example, I’d like to have a “Pay Insurance” item show up every month, preferably a few days ahead of time. Probably could tie that in to the Due Date feature.

Also, it would be nice if I could check things off without having to maximize the widget.

    Keep up the good work!

  18. 18 Jean Jan 16th, 2008 at 3:00 pm

    Hi,
very nice tool of yours! It would be nice if your tool had the option to change the background color.

Anyhow, your tool is great. Very good work!!!

    Jean

  19. 19 Bryan Jan 18th, 2008 at 6:08 pm

Excellent gadget! A couple of ideas/requests:

Start minimized - I always have to minimize the gadget when I start my computer in the morning.

    Skinning/Background color settings

    Subtasks visible in minimized setting

Settings to adjust max height in minimized state.

Thanks so much! This gadget rocks…

  20. 20 Willow Jan 19th, 2008 at 10:17 am

    Love it!
I run vista and never had problem one. I keep it unattached from my sidebar, in a nice wide format, so I can glance at it frequently. I also leave notes of encouragement to myself to see..I suffer with severe chronic pain, Sometimes my meds make me forgetful, so having this in front of me is great.

    What’s Up Your Sleeve Next???

How about a spot to add a favorite photo in the upper corner.. hummmmm, wonder what that might be, LOL

    Happy Saturday!

  21. 21 jon Jan 31st, 2008 at 5:15 pm

damnit, i was using this and i tried to drag one of to do items above another one and it came up with a window asking me to debug and something about line 180.

it then proceeded to eat my entire list of things to do (about 8 items long) :(

  22. 22 James Feb 12th, 2008 at 1:42 pm

Hi, great gadget! I love the print feature. My only concern which I know others have stated is the width. Even using minimize its a little too wide. Changing the settings doesn’t fix this either. Thanks for the gadget though.

  23. 23 Jasper Feb 18th, 2008 at 3:51 pm

    ADD COLOUR! =)
I’d like it match the theme of my desktop.
I’m a loser like that lol.

  24. 24 Tony Feb 22nd, 2008 at 11:17 am

Can you make it start minimized? It’s a pain having to minimize it everytime I restart my computer. Other than that, great gadget.

  25. 25 MaXx Feb 23rd, 2008 at 6:08 am

    Hi Mahin,

Awesome gadget you got there. Two small suggestions:

    1) It would be good if the list can be automatically re-sorted based on the priority.

    2) It would be good to be able to see the priority when you minimize the list.

  26. 26 Greg K. Feb 23rd, 2008 at 11:38 am

Minimize version seems TOO minimized. There’s space on the left. Can it be used for priority rank? Or maybe color the items in their corresponding priority colors as an option. Too many colors would surely bother some people, so a config option to turn that on/off would be fantastic!

A click on the items, when minimized, to cross (or un-cross) them out would be out of this world great!

Also, my Sidebar space is precious as I display a TON of info there, and even on a 24″ screen I’m running out, and don’t want to go to another tab. Why does the area on top and area on bottom when minimized take SOOOO MUCH SPACE? There’s probably over 100 pixels of dead space between the two. I could see that as possible necessity if there was a space to add a new item while minimized, but just as white space? Surely “Maximize” link does not need this much space?

In Minimized version, if I click on the properties icon, then close the screen, it goes back to maximized view. No big deal, but a bit annoying.

Last but not least, why have a maximized view when you already have a properties view? Do people really need to see all the “print” and “add business” icons at all times? I’d think that most people keep the list minimized until they need to edit or delete items or if they need to see more detail on a particular item. So minimized state, IMHO, is the primary, not secondary, state for this Sidebar gadget. empowering it to show and do a little more, and placing the maximized state into property edit to consolidate 3 screens (min, max, prop) into only 2, would simplify and improve this gadget.

Opinions above, are offered as humble suggestions. You did a great job with this gadget, and I mean in no way to diminish the thought and effort you put into them. I thank you and hope to see more from this neat tool as time goes by.

  27. 27 LOS Feb 24th, 2008 at 2:32 pm

Would be great if all entered items were kept in a separate view so in the future you could just pick the items you needed and add them to whatever to do list you wanted. This would save a lot of time typing or trying to remember all the repetative items associated with different to do lists (e.g. paying recurring bills, running different errands at different times of the month or year, birthdays, etc).

  28. 28 Jonathan Mar 13th, 2008 at 9:02 am

I don’t understand what you are talking about, once you click “minimize” the list fitts very nicely on the side bar !

  29. 29 Ian Mar 19th, 2008 at 7:47 am

Great tool :-) could do with an rename/edit function

  30. 30 Lisa Mar 30th, 2008 at 4:33 am

Love the gadget! The only thing is I wish it were’nt so easy to accidently delete your records!! It’s happened to me a few times now for God knows what reason, and I’ve had to guess the hours I had already put in on each task. It would be nice if it asked me if I’m sure I want to delete all logs, that way I would realize I pressed a button by mistake (I’m blaming it on a sensitive touchpad!) Thanks!

  31. 31 Timmy Mar 31st, 2008 at 8:30 am

It works great but i would like for the items to be able to be checked off while its minimized opposed to having to maximize and then check off and the width and length does not adjust when you set it to a different number.

  32. 32 Los Mar 31st, 2008 at 3:35 pm

Great to do list. Any way you could add a button that would email you or text your desired to-do list to you cell phone? That would be great!

  33. 33 Siv Apr 1st, 2008 at 1:37 am

Is there an option to change the background colour, I would like to make it black to blend in with all my other gadgets in the Vista Sidebar?

If not is it possible to have this in a future release.

    Otherwise a brilliant gadget!!

    Siv

  34. 34 Mahin Apr 4th, 2008 at 1:02 am

all, I am currently working on a new version of this gadget. I will include the above requests.

  35. 35 Jody Apr 6th, 2008 at 2:26 pm

when trying to open an item already added with a sub section of items it sometimes just closes the application and i have to restart the app again ant ideas?

  36. 36 Kevin Apr 9th, 2008 at 2:01 pm

It would look nicer if you had like a background to it. The box is so plain. Overall, nice gadget.

  37. 37 liz Apr 13th, 2008 at 7:36 pm

i think it’d be helpful if you could possibly make it so that instead of moving to the next “page” on he sidebar it gets scrollbars on the side.

  38. 38 Beth Apr 20th, 2008 at 10:44 am

I think it’s a very useful gadget. You’ve really put a lot of work into this — thanks!

  39. 39 Jeroen van Zutphen Apr 22nd, 2008 at 7:27 am

    Some wishes:
    - Please incude an option to not display the ‘done’-checkbox (I don’t use it).
    - Set the background color, set font size
    - I’d like to have the sub-actionpoints also visible in the minimized view
    - Make a mailinglist for update notifications

  40. 40 Siv Apr 26th, 2008 at 7:06 am

    The best gadget ever,

    you are a legend!

  41. 41 ze'ev Apr 28th, 2008 at 7:03 am

When I click on edit, the top part of the screen shows an IE timeout. Are you trying to display an ad or something?

  42. 42 Natovr May 27th, 2008 at 1:15 pm

it’s not an ad on mine…

  43. 43 Natovr May 27th, 2008 at 2:52 pm

oh yeah, I see, in the clipboard icon thing.. its a google text ad.. it’s alright for me IMO

  44. 44 Suzanne Jun 4th, 2008 at 4:59 pm

    Hi Mahin,
I read that you are making a new version with the suggested ideas. Is there any chance you can include a font size option? It is so small for me I have to squint to see it. I love everything else about it, even the big size everyone is complaining about. LOL

  45. 45 pam Jun 11th, 2008 at 11:04 pm

    Please update the following changes:

    1) Option to change background color for each task.

    2) option to change the background color of the gadget.

3)Music reminder when due date is IN.

4)Option to select the music for the ‘Music reminder’ for due date and time to play the reminder.

  46. 46 Paul Jun 12th, 2008 at 12:38 pm

Like many others, I’m waiting for the new version- and I like the suggestions above. This is a hint to make sure you know we do like your work, and want more!

  47. 47 Nik Jun 13th, 2008 at 7:25 pm

    Hi There
I’m using Vista, and every time I click the “edit” button, the gadget crashes.

That’s the only problem I see with it.

    Thanks

    -N

  48. 48 Nirvana Jun 16th, 2008 at 4:39 pm

Thank you for putting the effort in developing this useful gadget.

If I may kindly ask for you to implement a way to sepecify the minimized size in the sidebar. As it is now, it sticks out much farther then all my gadgets whcih are flush.

Thanks again for the hard work. Cheers.

  49. 49 lawrence Jun 17th, 2008 at 8:25 pm

best task sidebar or desktop gadget thus far! A few things:

    - categories
    - subtasks that can be checked off and have end dates
    - outlook sync
    - ability to expand the program to fill desktop horizontally if needed so we can have all tasks on one screen w/o scrolling.

    Again, bravo! love this program!

  50. 50 BluCarolina Jun 23rd, 2008 at 9:30 pm

I’m having problems with installing. When I click OPEN, I get a message telling me the file is either corrupted or the system doesn’t recognize the file type.

I also tried saving it to the correct directory and then double-clicking to install, but nothing happens.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

  51. 51 Ben Jul 3rd, 2008 at 7:10 am

Would be nice to have a backup/restore feature, or alternately the option to store the location of the data file - that way it could be used on say a laptop and updated to the office PC from time to time. Also would be nice to have a one-click or double-click way of marking task as complete. Otherwise great, thanks.

  52. 52 Ken Jul 7th, 2008 at 2:12 pm

Is there any way to recover a task if deleted? I had a “calls” task with subtasks that I deleted and need to recover.

    Any chance?

  53. 53 calvin Jul 10th, 2008 at 8:07 pm

Great tool. I am using it to manage my tasks.

i will be better if it comes with transparent background.

  54. 54 Paul Wong Jul 10th, 2008 at 8:30 pm

URGENT! I need to know where is data stored. My OS crash and I need to recover data! HELP!!

  55. 55 Mahin Jul 11th, 2008 at 10:08 am

    @ Paul Wong

You can find all your tasks stored in this path C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets\TodoList.gadget\TodoList_tsks.txt

  56. 56 Amber Jul 13th, 2008 at 9:33 pm

When the to do list erases our tasks where can we find them? I am using windows vista and couldn’t find it searching TodoList_tsks.txt or C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets\TodoList.gadget\TodoList_tsks.txt

  57. 57 Woody Jul 27th, 2008 at 12:21 pm

it would be great if the to-do list would sync withoutlooks to-do list.

  58. 58 Bhavesh Dave Aug 13th, 2008 at 8:46 am

This is a wonderful gadget for which i was searching for, i am getting all the things in this reminder gadget, it should strike all the reminders automatically when it crosses the due date & i cant able to change colors which i want, it is a request to do that much please otherwise a great gadget, Thanks to the Publisher.

  59. 59 Larry Aug 21st, 2008 at 11:36 pm

1st, this is a cool gadget for the vista sidebar (aside from the advertising, lol).

this is not really a bug, but…
the “print” forces internet explorer. my default browser is firefox. can you change it to use the default browser?

would love to add the ability to have additional information saved with a business name. actually this opens up a whole new capability. also, it doesn’t seem to remember business names too well in the current version. in fact, it does not remember them at all.

next, in terms of the size for the windows sidebar issue i suggest the following:
overall, keep a fixed size to the gadget and use scrolling to go through the list. when an item is selected to open (possibly by double click, rather then ‘maximize’), open the gadget on the desktop, then close it back to the sidebar. (if possible keep a marker in the sidebar so it goes back to it’s original position, not the top of the group).

next, the path to the data is really C:\Users\’your login name’\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets\TodoList.gadget\TodoList_tsks.txt. and in my case, i have another to-do list that i am checking out and it uses the same gadget name for its storage, so you are TodoList-1 and it is TodoList-2. good thing someone recognizes the difference.

  60. 60 Nate Aug 30th, 2008 at 10:24 am

Love the tool, I’ve never been organized before and this tool is getting me on the road I need to be on, thank you so much for it.

I do have one possible improvement for it. I think it might be even better if there was a further breakdown of tasks. For example, Let’s suppose that I have several things I need to do in a weekend’s time, but I need to separate Friday, Saturday, and Sunday’s subjects because the things I need to do are progressive and build on one another. If there was a way to create subsets of things to do within one item to do, that would make the tool even more flexible and useful.

    Thanks again!

  61. 61 Mike Sep 5th, 2008 at 12:22 am

Hey, Great gadget! There is a weird quirk I keep running into. I set the height to 400, which fits on the first page of my gadgets. I then minimize it, but when I want to edit I click maxmize, and it goes back to the original height and moves to the next page of gadgets. If I click the little settings button, 400 is still the height, which is my setting, and when I click ok to close the settings box, it moves back to the front page because it was adjusted to 400 again. I was wondering if you had some variable that the gadget checks when the maximize button is hit, and that variable is not altered when I change the height setting. Thanks so much, its awesome, this is the only issue I have had!

  62. 62 Martin Jan 9th, 2009 at 4:12 am

    Hey,

I love this little gadget, and use it alongside your other wonderful tracker gadget. Is it still being actively developed?

I’de love to see it synchronised with the iGoogle gadget data if that’s possible.

    Martin

  63. 63 Mahin Jan 28th, 2009 at 2:38 pm

    Hi Martin,
I will be updating the gadgets pretty soon. thanks for the suggestion. I will work on it when I get time.

    thanks,
    Mahin

  64. 64 Mr. Chang Apr 23rd, 2009 at 1:51 am

    Good gadget!!!

  65. 65 Oliver Nguyen Apr 23rd, 2009 at 10:39 pm

Can you add a filtering mechanism so that completed tasks are *not* shown on the list? If it’s already available, can you let me know how to do it? I would rather leave tasks as completed versus having to delete them to clean up the task list. Thanks!

  66. 66 Mahin Apr 28th, 2009 at 1:35 am

    Oliver,
Currently there is no way, but let me look into adding that.

    Mahin

  67. 67 Madeline May 23rd, 2009 at 7:47 am

This is great just what I needed, no improvements necessary. I am using it in windows 7 and unlike vista I can move this gadget anywhere I want on my desktop, it’s not stuck in a side bar. I can print my task and go, or just leave it open and check things off as they are completed. If your are a to do list person like me then this gadget is a must have. If you have vista well I’m sorry.

  68. 68 ZenFire May 27th, 2009 at 4:32 pm

Is there a way you can add a feature, were if you use the due date with the task, the task will remain hidden until the task is coming due? It could show the task again going by the setting the user sets when the priority gets changed to high.
    Thanks, Mike

  69. 69 Dorian Jun 28th, 2009 at 7:31 am

When I enter several tasks and hit the second task is entered as a sub task. I just want to enter a lot of todo items from the task list without having to close the sub menu after every entry. Am I missing something?

  70. 70 Mahin Jun 29th, 2009 at 5:05 am

    Dorian,
quick entry is enabled for sub tasks. Unfortunately, you have to go to the main task text box and enter each main task. You really don’t have to close the sub menu. You just goto the main text box on the top and enter your tasks.

    thanks,
    Mahin

  71. 71 Marla Jul 6th, 2009 at 4:48 pm

It doesn’t seem to like symbols…%, $, etc. When I am adding a subtask, the gadget sometimes crashes, but not consistently

  72. 72 Pete Jul 8th, 2009 at 6:18 pm

Very good gadget. Can it accept other foreign language?

  73. 73 Mahin Jul 12th, 2009 at 9:21 pm

It should. I have never tried it myself. Do leave a comment and let me know if it did not work.

Ofcourse the menus will still be in English. But you can enter foreign characters.

    Mahin

  74. 74 Pete Jul 16th, 2009 at 8:21 pm

I tried with Chinese characters. Typing in has no problem. Once I hit enter, the whole gadget shrunk to a narrow white pad with nothing showing. Basically, I need to remove the gadget and re-install it. It might work if the controls/content are visible, I guess.

  75. 75 Dale Jul 21st, 2009 at 2:25 pm

Really like the ability to classify projects!

One thing I would suggest to add, is some how a NOTES: tab or section. Then I would not have to have a “sticky notes” gadget. I can have my list and notes too.

  76. 76 Daniel Holzman-Tweed Aug 28th, 2009 at 7:02 am

It blew away all my tasks when I upgraded! Is there any way to get them back? Is this the bug that is now fixed?

  77. 77 Mahin Aug 28th, 2009 at 7:42 pm

    Hi Daniel,
sometimes it is still stored under C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets\TodoList.gadget\TodoList_tsks.txt

    Mahin

  78. 78 Happy Hippo Sep 13th, 2009 at 5:00 am

Hi, can you add different colour schemes to this gadget please? Also, minimize and maximize ability is a very good idea, BUT when I click minimize (on windows 7), the whole gadget moves , it doesn’t stay in one place. If I move minimised gadget to where I want it to be, and click maximize, a part of it is not visible because it maximises itself to invisible area of desktop.

Anyway, basically the top left corner of this gadget stays in the same place, but the rest of the gadget changes, but it’s top RIGHT corner that is supposed to stay in the same place.

And also it would be great if you could add a reminder option to the lists (maybe something simple, like a pop-up with alarm).

Thank you very much in advance, I will be looking forward to an update.

I am a new laptop/vista owner. I love the gadget bar and have found some dumb ones and some great ones. I first downloaded the original version of ‘todolist’, it’s great by the way, and then found the new one. It looks even more appealing. The problem is that when I downloaded all the others and then clicked on them they just installed. When I use your “vista sidebar” button to download the new version it downloads a zip file which I open but there is nothing inside with a .exe file extension or any way to install it. Am I missing something? If you could help I would really appreciate it.

Great to-do list. Will you be coming out with an iphone app that would sync with the gadget version? That would be great!

    Hi,

Two questions, first is same problem as Olivia - When I use the “vista sidebar” button to download the 2.2 version it downloads a zip file but there is nothing inside with a .exe file extension or any way of installing it. Also, any chance 2.2 will be available a Vista sidebar? That would be very convenient.

Seperate question: When I used the Vista sidebar 1.2.0 version, I tried to open two distinct sidebar apps (for two seperate purposes, with different items in each). It worked for 24 hours, but after a restart both of the apps showed the same data (one apparently overwrote the other - the data in the other dissapeared. Is there any way to keep two seperate apps with different items in the sidebar without one replacing its data into the other?

    Needless to say, outstanding apps!

    Thanks again,

    Pierre

    Pierre,
this is what i suggested to Olivia which worked. Just rename the .exe to .gadget and double click it. Windows Vista should automatically recognize it to be a sidebar gadget file.
And yes, the gadget is not designed to accomodate more than one instance. So there can be only ONE app. Unfortunately, I donot know any way to keep both the apps at the same time.

    Great App!
I love it so much, I’d like to have two on my notebook- one for the job related tasks and one for personal tasks. Is that possible at this time?

I downloaded the 2.2.0 update and unzipped 11 files, none that will send it to the sidebar. Am I missing a file?

  87. 87 Mahin Oct 29th, 2009 at 8:02 pm

just rename it to .gadget and open it. don’t know why it downloads as .zip.

Nice gadget. I’m using it as a desktop gadget in Windows 7. One request: I place the gadget in the upper right hand of my desktop, where it “locks” in place. Unfortunately, when I minimize, it moves to the left, unlocked from its previous location. When I again move it to the upper right corner, it locks again — but should I maximize it there, it expands off the screen to the right. I’m asking if the gadget can keep its relative position no matter its size, similar to the news feed gadget.

    Darryl,
I have never tested on Windows 7. So am not able to visualize what you see. Will update when I get a hold of a Windows 7 machine.

    thanks,

PLEASE HELP! I have been using this for several months & love it. Suddenly I activated some other program on my computer that had a desktop display, and my list dissapeared. I deactivated the other item, but can’t find my list. I even tried to download again, but it is not showing on my desktop like before. I feel really stupid, it seems like this should be easy, but I’m missing something. Thanx for help.

    Moonwynd,
Try to scroll your sidebar by clicking on the top scroll button. It is probably moved to the next screen of the sidebar.

  97. 97 Shannon Feb 13th, 2010 at 10:11 am

Just lately when I go to print my list, the resulting webpage is empty (but for the usual ads). Is there a setting somewhere that has changed?

    Thanks,
    Shannon

I posted this an hour ago. But I don’t see it, so I’ll try again. I am unable to get a print list to display on the webpage that opens (only ads show). This is a recent development as I have been using it for quirte a while with no trouble.

    Shannon,
Can you tell me the OS you are using and the Internet Explorer Browser version ?

  100. 100 Shannon Murphy Feb 14th, 2010 at 1:57 am

    Hi,

I’m using Vista and IE 8.0.6001.18882.

I don’t know if it’s related, but between the last time I was able to print the list and the first time I couldn’t, I had downloaded Office 2010 Beta and uninstalled it.

I really miss my list! Does anyone have any ideas about this problem?

    Thanks,

Has anyone gotten any ideas about this? I really miss my list!

  104. 104 Shannon Feb 28th, 2010 at 4:00 pm

Oh for heaven’s sake. I found this answer way back in a post from Jim in April 08:

“After some experimentation, I have discovered the cause of the problem. If any task or subtask within a list ends with the backslash character (\), and that item is included with the list of items selected to print (either as one of all tasks, or as a task due yesterday, today, or tomorrow), then to-do sees the list as empty. The backslash character only seems to cause this problem when it is at the end of a line.”

I found such an entry and zapped it. This list now prints fine!

    Thanks,
    Shannon

Congratulations - this is a very handy and workable tool. You may see fit to do some fine tuning over time, but overall it is excellent at this point. Thanks.
