Expense Sharer - Simple online tool to calculate shared expenses

Expense Report - When you are done adding all the expenses appropriately, you can click on “Expense Report” to generate a report that should clearly indicate the appropriate share of each person. The report opens in a new window. This page also has a print button that you could click to print the report.

Expense Report

Print - Print helps you to print the report. Print is available both in the main window and as part of the Expense Report.

Export - The data you enter is NOT saved on the server. So if you close the window, you WILL lose all your data. Hence I provided the Export functionality. Export helps you to save the information you entered into your own personal file. So once you are done entering the appropriate information, click on Export and export the data into a personal file. You can later import it back and continue working from where you left. DONOT close the window before you export your data. Another tip to share expense data with others is to use the Google Word document where you can copy the exported data and share it with others. They should then be able to import the data back and check on the expenses.

Import - If you had exported your data before, then you can import the same data and start working from where you left. This is very helpful if you would like to keep updating your old expenses. Import also enables you to share the exported file with your friends, so that they can import it back to check on the expenses.

Edit name - You should see “Edit name” link just adjacent to the name of each person. Clicking on this link will let you change the name of the person.
Go to Menu (Shortcut key: ctrl+shift+m) - You should see “Go to Menu” link just adjacent to the name of each person. Clicking on this link will take you to the top menu.

More on shortcut keys and some usage scenarios..

Hi I have a question. if there is 2 people sharing then how much do I put in the share section? 2 or 0.5

To explain how to use Expense sharer tool better, consider the following example
X and two of his friends Y and Z, share a two bed room apartment. X lives in one full bedroom, while Y and Z share the other room.
Its clear that X has to pay twice that others (Y and Z) pays.
    so while entering the expense

put 2 for X in share section
    put 1 for Y
    put 1 for Z

    Another scenario:

if 2 families (X and Y) are going for a picnic.
X family has 2 adult and 1 kid
Y family has 2 adults and 2 kids
to share expense between these 2 families (assuming kids share 0.5 of the share as adults)
    put 2.5 for X in share section ( 1 + 1 + 0.5 )
    put 3 for Y in share section ( 1 + 1 + 0.5 + 0.5 )
or you can enter each person separately and enter their respective share.

so in your case if 2 people are sharing equally, then put 1 for each person.

    Hello,

How come when I’m trying to put in £920.00 for 2 people it’s coming up with hash symbols even though the formular looks the same as the other cells. some reason its not liking the numbers 930

any help as finding this REALLY useful but i’m stuck now as I can’t carry on until this is fixed.

    Thanks again

When I tried to add £920 or £930, the application seems to work fine. Please reproduce this issue using sample data and send me the exported content. If there is an issue I will fix it as soon as possible.

I am moved to tears. Thank you, thank you. I just hope all the calculations were correct. I had such a huge list that I can’t even hand check the final numbers.

This is terrific, but I have one question. Is it possible to reconcile paid-off debts? In other words, when people who owe money to others pay all or some of what they owe, but shared expenses continue, where and how are payments recorded? Many thanks.
