in Smart Todo.
As I had mentioned in my previous blog post, I’m currently busy with my new venture (www.smazzle.com) and hardly had time to convert the iGoogle ToDo gadget to a non-inline version.
Google sent me a mail indicating that they are going to stop supporting my iGoogle ToDo gadget within the next 2 months. You can still continue to use it until Google eventually stops supporting it. You still may have 2 months left in the gadget. But I strongly advice you to Print your tasks and move to any other version of iGoogle ToDo gadget or you can always checkout my alternative ToDo gadgets - Netvibes version or the Windows Vista version.
I will be working on a newer version of iGoogle ToDo gadget few months after the launch of our new venture. Until then, please use alternative gadgets. Keep visiting my blog for any updates and thanks again for using my gadgets.

in shopping.
Lately I had been busy with a brand new venture - a Deal Request Comparison Shopping Engine (www.smazzle.com) .

The idea is very simple - When you have decided on a product or list of products to buy, just request a deal and we (and the community) will help you find the best price including ALL rebates + Shipping + tax. We also compare Cashback rebates (like fatwallet or mrrebates.com or QuickenPicks) and include the best cashback in the price.
Comparison shopping is growing exponentially with 100’s of comparison shopping sites being added every year. This leads to a lot of confusion and a lot of clutter making it a very unproductive experience when you are trying to find the best price for a product. In general, if your time is more valuable, you would not care to spend time to comparison shop and would normally just go to a single site like amazon.com and make your purchase without worrying too much about price. BUT what if there was one site that can help you find the best price WITHOUT you having to spend your valuable time - Would you be interested ?
At Smazzle.com we understand that finding the best price involves a combination of Store Price + coupon + cashback + mail in rebates + gift card rebates +Shipping + tax. And furthermore each Cashback provider provides a different percentage of cashback. making it a even more complicated mathematical problem. We have developed a a very robust platform that can calculate all the combinations of rebates eventually providing you with the FINAL best price.
We know your time is extremely valuable and therefore once you request a deal, we spend quality time making sure the deals are the best and are as accurate as possible. Read more about us at the Smazzle Blog. Also learn more about the four categories of shopping sites and the steps to find the best price for any product. Just try us out and we promise to wow you !!

Few had informed me that To-Do List gadget all of a sudden stopped working. Google had stopped supporting inlining feature (which the gadget uses) but assured that the existing gadgets should not be affected. Unfortunately, it has affected To-do List gadget for few users. It is unfortunately beyond my control.
The good news is - ALL YOUR DATA IS SAFE within the gadget itself. so DONOT PANIC. and DONOT delete the gadget. If you delete it, then you will lose ALL your data.
I have outlined the steps on how to retrieve your data very easily and use other alternative gadgets I have developed.
- Assuming you had entered your todo and it looked previously like below:

- With this issue, the gadget should look like below:

- Right click on this gadget and say “View Source”. It should open a notepad with a lot of contents.

- Search for “screeperzone” and around that text, you should see a lot of “%22″ wherein you will see your todo lists. Unfortunately it is a little messy to extract one by one.

- I have other alternatives for the same todo list gadget - including for Vista and Netvibes. Please visit this link for the alternatives.

You must have noticed today that Activity Tracker says “Sorry, this gadget uses the inlining feature, which is no longer supported.“ This has been reported to iGoogle Developer forum and should be fixed shortly. Please watch this link for any updates.
IMPORTANT: DONOT close Activity Tracker. You will lose ALL the data.
In order to backup your data, please follow my post on backing up or exporting the settings . Please note the following:
- Before you click on “Restore your iGoogle page to the last backup” make sure you “Export” current settings.
- Then click on “Restore” as explained in the post and then “Export” to export the settings that you just restored (which should have all your activity tracker preferences).
- Now you should have 2 settings that you exported - the latest settings and the restored settings. The restored settings should normally have the Activity Tracker preference data.
- Then you can wait for iGoogle folks to fix the issue.
- If you need all the current settings for all your other gadgets, then import your latest settings back again using the import button.
- If you donot want to wait for Google to help us with the issue, then open this xml file in textpad and check for activity tracker related preferences. Then email it to screeperzone+pc at gmail.com and I can help you retrieve your data.

Before I begin, I want to let you know that I tested all my gadgets particularly to prevent data loss and any data loss problems have always turned out to be a temporary network issue. So if you think you lost data I recommend you to follow these steps.
- Restore it from iGoogle page backup. I did post a separate blog that discusses how to backup and share your iGoogle gadgets.
- Incase you forgot to manually backup some important data, DO NOT remove your gadget from iGoogle page - this can permanently delete your recent data.
- If you deleted your gadget by mistake, click “Undo” link (near Google search box) immediately. This will get your gadget and its data back. If you are still not able to get your gadget back (probably due to browser caching issues), open a new browser window and go to your iGoogle page. Click Shift + refresh.
- Shoot me an email (screeperzone+issues@gmail.com). I will try my best to get your data back.
- Check Google Gadget API groups for help. There are professional gadget developers out there who can help you.
- Visit iGoogle Troubleshooting help page.
- Don’t panic. Wait for few minutes and then open iGoogle in different browser window and click Shift+refresh.
I am currently compiling all the issues that users emailed me about and the solutions that worked. Most of the issues were due to temporary network problems and almost everyone got their data back.
Most common issues faced by Google Partner page users (not iGoogle users)
“Sorry, this module cannot be displayed, as it requires inlining but is provided by an untrusted source” –
Inline gadgets don’t work on Partner page. It only works on iGoogle page. Check this post . I have explained why I use inline gadgets in detail in this post.

Many had been requesting some kind of a feature to backup data from Activity Tracker, Todo List and My Moments gadgets. I did some research and found out that Google provides such a feature to backup, import or export the data.
I will provide you with instructions on how to do just that. This information relates to the following iGoogle gadgets that you may be using.
[”My Moments” - Countdown, countup and much more..]
[Activity Tracker - Punchclock & Time Management Gadget]
[To-Do List with Google Maps !!]
Steps to backup/import/export the gadget data
- In your IGoogle homepage that hosts ScreeperZone gadgets, click on the small arrow provided on the tab and select “Edit this tab”

- Now scroll down to the bottom of the page and you should see a section called “Troubleshooting” and another section called “Export / Import”

- If you just wish to backup the gadgets, then click on “Backup”. The backup is saved in Google servers and you can recover the gadgets later by clicking on “Restore Now”. Unfortunately it saves only one snapshot of your Google settings. If you would like to save data at different times, then you will have to export your settings at different intervals. The next point discusses this.
- If you wish to Export the data into a file and later restore it back from the file, then click on “Export” and save the file iGoogle-settings.xml locally. You can later restore your settings and data by uploading this file. To upload, click on “Browse” and select the file. You can then click on “Upload” to upload the settings.

The “To-do List with Google maps” iGoogle gadget leverages this feature and now you should be able to share your to-do list with everyone. Infact they will be able to edit it (if you provide permission) and everyone should be able to see the edit.
Following are the steps you follow to share your todo list gadget:
- Click on the small arrow on the top of the To-Do List gadget and select “Share this gadget”

- You should be presented with a dialog box where you can select the people you would like to share the gadget with or you can enter the email address. You will also need to specify if you would want them to just view your content or you would also let them edit it. On clicking “Send Invite”, your friends will be sent an email inviting them to add the gadget.

- IMPORTANT: If your invitee happens to have his own personal To-Do List gadget, then he/she might have conflicts with the gadget you are sharing. To avoid such a conflict, it is advisable that your friend have the shared gadget on a separate tab.
